MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews saved the life of a puppy stuck in a dangerous situation on Tuesday.

Fire crews said the 3-month old had wedged himself in between some concrete light poles at 222nd Street and southwest 137th Avenue.

Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation workers had heard the puppy yelping.

"These are concrete light poles, about 5,000 lbs a piece," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Venom Response Unit Lt. Scott Mullin. "The puppy had gotten wedged down in here between these poles. Probably had wandered away from the mother, fallen in and gotten pinned."

It is not known how long the puppy had been stuck or how the pup got there but crews were able to get him out.

"I don't know how long it had been down there, being so compressed.  It was hard for it to breathe and it was also hard for the circulation of blood, so that could lead to problems," said Mullin. "The dog was having some profusion... some blood issues, as far as the heat.  It was not good."

The puppy was taken to a veterinarian for examination. Rescuers are hoping he will make it.

As far as where the dog came from, Mullin said, "Where we are right now is down in the Redlands and in this area unfortunately, it appears a lot of dogs are brought down here by people who can no longer take care of them."

At last check, the puppy was listed in stable condition.
