Dolphins Place Safety Louis Delmas On Season-Ending IR

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins have officially placed safety Louis Delmas on season-ending injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.
This move was more a formality as it's been known for almost a week that Delmas tore the same ACL that ended his 2014 season last December. The injury took place during a joint practice between the Dolphins and the Carolina Panthers at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The 28-year-old hard hitting safety signed a one-year deal worth $3.5 million during the offseason despite the initial injury. His base salary for 2015 is $1.4 million.
Delmas has been injury prone throughout his career and the Dolphins were well aware of the risk when they originally signed him last year.
During the 2014 season Delmas played very well until his injury, appearing in 13 games and recording 60 tackles, a sack, two fumble recoveries and an interception which he returned for a touchdown.
Miami has plugged second-year defensive back Walt Aikens into Delmas' spot as the starting free safety but he will have to prove that he is worthy of the role before being anointed the new starter.
Aikens was selected by the Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
