DETROIT (CBSMiami/AP) — A business-friendly audience in Detroit heard Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio share his ideas on how to improve the U.S. economy on Thursday.

Rubio spoke to the Detroit Economic Club about his previously announced plans. They include lowering corporate tax rates, loosening regulations and broadening college accreditation.

State Democratic leaders say the Florida senator's plans would be "disastrous."

Rubio, who announced his candidacy in April, later will meet with Republicans at the state GOP's regional office in the Detroit suburb of Livonia.

Rubio, 44, is among 17 candidates seeking the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. He's also one of the youngest candidates in the race.
