Doug Plagens Named Voice of the Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers announced today that Doug Plagens has been named the team's new radio play-by-play broadcaster and will serve as the "voice" of the Panthers on the club's newly created radio network, which can be heard on Miami Sports Radio 560-WQAM this season.

"We are extremely pleased and honored to welcome Doug as our team's new radio play-by-play broadcaster," said Florida Panthers Executive Chairman Peter Luukko. "Doug is a dynamic, young and talented broadcaster who brings with him a tremendous resume and strong background in broadcasting, serving as a play-by-play announcer for several professional sports teams. He will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for our organization serving as a both a spokesperson and ambassador for the Panthers brand in South Florida."

Plagens has spent the previous four seasons with Cavaliers Operating Company, serving as the radio and television play-by-play broadcaster for the American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters and Arena Football League's Cleveland Gladiators. Plagens also was selected as an announcer for the 2015 AHL All-Star Game and served as a feature reporter for Access Cavaliers on Fox Sports Ohio.

His duties also included hosting web-based team specific news segments, while also providing other unique content for both the Monsters' and Gladiator's team websites. Plagens also served as the manager of broadcasting and the media relations contact for both clubs.

Prior to working with Cavaliers Operating Company, Plagens served as the radio and television play-by-play voice of the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. With the Steelheads, he was recognized as the ECHL's "Broadcaster of the Year" for the 2009-2010 season and was selected as part of the national television broadcast of the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game.

Plagens' broadcasting experience also includes time as a television sports anchor and reporter at WKBN (CBS), WYFX (FOX), and WYTV (ABC) in Youngstown, Ohio.

Plagens holds a Master's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University and a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from Lake Forest College.
