Salguero: $3 Million Gulf Between Evan Mathis and Miami Dolphins

Interviews-wqam

What's the latest on the Evan Mathis front?

"Is it a surprise that money has a lot to do with it?" the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero asked on the Big O Show. "No, it shouldn't be, right?

"The problem is that he was cut late by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was scheduled to make $5.5 million this year, and he's in a situation now, the timing of that is most aren't ready to spend $5.5 million on a guard, on a player who is available late and is available when camps are just about ready to get opened, and they've already got their teams. So, it's going to require some desperation from some team. It's going to require a need, a definite need. Right now the Dolphins aren't going to show that desperation because they still want to see if they can get by or do a little bit better than get by with Jamil Douglas, with Dallas Thomas ... So, the gulf right now is the Dolphins are thinking $2-2.5 million a year. Evan Mathis is thinking, 'I want to be whole. I was going to make $5.5 million from the Eagles. That's where I want to be. And, the $3 million is the gulf between them."
