Exclusive: Sheriff's Deputy Arrested For Enticing Minor

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami)---A 22-year-old sheriffs department deputy with ties to Deerfield Beach is facing federal charges of trying to entice a 15-year-old juvenile from Davie to have sex.

According to a criminal complaint, this happened during a series of graphic messages online on Snap Chat and Kik. Bondi has been fired by Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.

In an exclusive report, CBS4's Peter D'Oench reported that Matthew Aaron Bondi was being held pending a federal detention hearing on Friday at the federal courthouse after a federal magistrate's hearing before Judge Lurana Snow.

Snow read from a federal complaint that said that Bondi, who used to live with his parents in Deerfield Beach, "used a facility for interstate commerce to persuade, entice" someone under the age of 18 for sex.

According to the complaint obtained by D'Oench, Bondi engaged in a series of extremely graphic sexual messages with the 15-year-old victim. When his parents found out, the case was turned over to Davie Police. An undercover detective eventually started posing as the juvenile and started exchanging messages with Bondi.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the F.B.I. were also involved.

According to the complaint, the undercover detective told Bondi several times that he was 15-years old and Bondi said he wanted to go to a hotel to have sex. When he was arrested, the complaint said Bondi said he "screwed up."

Bondi was brought to court in shackles. He told Judge Snow that he needed a federal Public Defender. He said he owned no real estate and had bills and was paid $3,000 a month as a deputy---a salary that lost when he was fired. Bondi said he had $2,000 in the bank.

Bondi's mother and father attended the hearing. They told D'Oench they had no comment about the charges against their son.

According to the complaint Bondi traveled to Davie where the victim lives. Judge Snow said the charges involve the messages between Bondi and the victim and the undercover detective that occurred between June 5 and August 4th.

Sheriff Nocco was outspoken about the decision to fire Bondi, who just turned 22-years old and was on a probation with his department because he had been a deputy for just 9 months.

"There was no question we had to take swift action to make sure he was no longer associated with the Pasco County Sheriffs Department," said Nocco.

"For our citizens, we have to be held accountable and there is a perception sometimes in the public that is not so and that is not true," he said. "Our people are angry about this. He disgraced the uniform and he disgraced our team."

Nocco said his department did a thorough background check before hiring Bondi. He said anyone in the public who has had some unusual contacts or problems with Bondi should call his department.
