TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - A state auction of unclaimed-property over the weekend brought in $1.53 million.
The top item, a diamond ring, sold for $100,000, according to information released Tuesday by Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater's office.
The state holds an annual auction of items that have been found in abandoned safe deposit boxes.
Atwater's office said in a news release that "exhaustive efforts" had been made to locate the owners of the items before they were put up for auction. Money raised during the auctions goes into a state education trust fund, though proceeds from the sale of items can be claimed if the owners ever come forward.
