DETROIT (CBSMiami) – One of the greatest general managers in Florida/Miami Marlins history, if not the greatest, is out of a job.

Dave Dombrowski, the architect of the Marlins 1997 World Series winning team, was released from his contract as GM of the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.

It isn't known yet whether Dombrowski was fired or if he quick, though that should be learned during a scheduled press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Dombrowski spent more than a decade with the Marlins, working under owners H. Wayne Huizenga and John Henry, who sold the franchise in order to purchase the Boston Red Sox.

In 2002 Dombrowski was hired by the Tigers.

Detroit reached the World Series in 2006 and 2012 while making five playoff appearances under Dombrowski.
