Women Facing Animal Cruelty Charges After Dog Dies In Car

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A dog is dead after its owner allegedly left in a car with temperatures reaching as high as 115 degrees. Now the dog's owner and her mother are facing animal cruelty and disorderly conduct charges.

Latisha Carson stood before a judge on Monday as she heard out her charges.

Judge Mindy Glazer said, "Let's be happy it wasn't a child, I'm sorry its your dog."

Carson allegedly left her pit bull-Rottweiler mix inside a car at her mother's house at 2101 NW 93rd St. on Sunday. Reports say the temperature reached 115 degrees.

"The window was cracked that much – not enough for dog to survive. It overheated and died," said Latisha Carson's father, John Brown.

Latisha's dad says the 25 year old has a history of medical issues. He said she is bipolar and she's not responsible enough to care for animals.

Brown said he is a dog lover and is very upset about this.

"Why didn't one of them come outside and put the dog on a leash and put the dog in the yard," Brown said.

He says his daughter and her mother, Debbie Carson, are facing serious consequences for a serious action.

"I think they need to get a grip on their life and don't have any pets if they can't take care of them. That's the way I feel, you know," he said.

Latisha Carson and her mother are out, with no bond set, as they await the next court date on these felony charges.
