MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins pitching rotation has been decimated by injury for a stretch that bridges this season and last.

On Tuesday the team received more bad news that only adds to a devastatingly disappointing season.

Starter Henderson Alvarez, who has been out of the rotation for months, underwent surgery on his injured right shoulder.

He will miss the remainder of the 2015 season.

Alvarez originally went on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

He appeared to be on the way back to the Marlins roster but was recently shut down during a rehab assignment after experiencing trouble with the shoulder.
