Broward 100 Moments: Turning 100

Turning 100 is no longer a unique thing; it seems today people are turning 100 by the 100s. This is a good thing!

They look great well.  Just 5 years ago, turning 100 years old was rare. Today, turning 100 looks like 85; some even look like 75!
If turning 100 is no longer necessarily unique, turning 100 with Broward County might be fantastic.
These particular centenarians will remember the little things that happened with the beginning of a County's existence; they will forever hold hands with their County as twin members of a particular 100-year old club.

Attached to the memories of the years of their lives, there will also be sprinkles of the milestones in the developing of their home for those who have stayed and lived here the whole time; and even some who have left and come back. We suspect those were the ones who arrived at the Broward County Commission on Tuesday, June 9th for a Centennial Citizen Celebration.

Twenty-eight Broward County individuals who are 100-years-old or more showed up to celebrate being a County Centenarian, a Centennial Citizen, at a time when Broward County is brimming with pride and celebration about its 100th birthday.
And so too were the 28 people who were brimming with pride. To an overall crowd of nearly 200, they came in their fine outfits, their hats, smiles and glittering eyes; they came with their spouses and children and mostly their refinement and grace, for having lived 100 years, and for still going strong. They reminded us that Broward County might also be glittering and refined for having earned 100 years of life.

There was centenarian gentleman on the elevator in the parking lot on his way home from the event; his wife held his hand with pride and protection. He said little, and not because he couldn't. It seemed because he didn't need it. The twinkle in his eye and the satisfied grin on his face, told everyone in the elevator the whole story.  At 100, you can tell a whole story with the twinkle in your eye.
