Broward 100 - Celebrating the Art of Community is delighted that its yearlong centennial celebration is underway.

On Thursday, October 16, 2014, Broward 100 began during the annual event, The Block Party. Organized by Broward College, Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University, this bash, to celebrate higher education, occurred from 5 to 8 p.m. along Las Olas Boulevard, between Andrews and Second Avenues in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

In collaboration with the area's higher-education institutions and the NSU Museum of Art l Fort Lauderdale, Broward 100 @ The Block Party featured art exhibitions, live music and performances, live graffiti painting, family activities, and of course, food trucks at several event areas. Guests could view live graffiti painting and listen to music at NSU Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale outdoor plaza. John Wai Kung Fu Academy Lion Dance Performance Team performed and guided attendees to and from the various activity areas. A children's area was available featuring fun, historical and educational activities. Live music and performances were held on the stage at the Entertainment Plaza.

Crowning the event was special guest and Broward native Catherine Hickland, best known for ABC's One Life to Live & Broadway's Les Miserables fame, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.

Each participating educational institution provided information booths along Las Olas Boulevard. Broward College, in collaboration with FAU, revealed its Inside Out Broward installation which featured a large-scale black-and-white collage of student headshots.

This fun and expressive collage was part of the global Inside Out Project street art movement invented by JR, the French artist of the 2011 TED Talk International fame. Broward 100 @ The Block Party brought together the County's brightest resources, education and culture, and the team behind Broward 100 - Celebrating the Art of Community is pleased to have joined this massive celebration brought to you by the area's educational institutions. The public was invited to attend for free.
