MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A fatal crash into a brick fence sent debris flying into a Southwest Miami-Dade home, narrowly missing a child inside, early Saturday morning.

"A car was traveling this way and crashed into the bricks. It flipped and a man died," said Maria Hernandez who was home sleeping.

According to Hernandez, the accident happened at around 2 a.m. near her home at SW 40th street and 104th Ave.

She told CBS4 a piece of debris went flying through a window where her 12-year-old granddaughter was listening to music. The piece landed right in the middle of her bed.

"Thank God no one was hurt," she said. "But I'm still nervous and scared."

Also damaged by the flying debris were two vehicles parked in the front yard.

"One car was damaged and so was the other one," she said. "One of the doors won't open."

And even though she has to now deal with getting her vehicles fixed and cleaning up the mess left behind, Hernadez feels terrible the man behind the wheel lost his life.

"When a person dies this way, it's horrible," she said.

At this time it is unknown what caused the crash. Authorities have not identified the driver.
