PENSACOLA (CBSMiami/AP) —A former IRS employee along and three Pensacola residents are headed to prison for filing false oil spill claims.

U.S. Attorney Pamela Marsh announced Friday that four people had been sentenced on mail fraud charges.

The four pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme where they alleged they lost money due to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The four were paid more than $92,000 as a result of the false claims.

Jimmie McCorvey worked for the IRS as a tax examiner during the time the false claims were filed. He was sentenced this week to six years in prison.

McCorvey also admitted to conspiring to file false tax returns from 2009 to 2011. He also pleaded guilty to identity theft.

The other three defendants received sentences ranging from one year to four years.
