OCALA (CBSMiami/AP) — A former central Florida federal prison corrections officer is being charged with bribery.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 32-year-old Robert Brown had been charged with accepting a bribe by a public official.

Prosecutors say Brown used his position at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex to smuggle contraband into the prison in exchange for payments.

Authorities say the smuggling took place over six months this year until Brown was caught in June.

Prosecutors say Brown admitted to being promised $7,100 in payments in exchange for allowing in cell phones, prescription pills, tobacco and other items into the prison.

If convicted, he faces 15 years in prison.

Brown's case wasn't yet listed on the federal courts' electronic docket, and it was not known if he had hired an attorney.
