TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – While most folks spent the Fourth of July watching fireworks, Donald Trump set off a few of his own using one of his favorite tools – Twitter.

Continuing his attack on Mexican immigration, the Republican presidential hopeful retweeted to his 3.1 million followers this message:

"#JebBush has to like the Mexican illegals because of his wife."

Bush's wife Columba was born in Mexico.

The retweet stayed on Trump's Twitter page for a day before it was finally pulled down.

Bush campaign spokesman, Kristy Campbell responded in an email to CBS4 News:

"It's not surprising Donald Trump deleted his offensive tweet. As Governor Bush has said, Trump's comments on immigrants were wholly inappropriate and not reflective of the Republican Party's views."

This is the latest example of Trump's scorched earth campaign strategy.

It started with Trump's comments about Mexicans coming across the border in which he declared, "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Since making those comments Trump has been dumped by Univision and NBC, which say they will no longer air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. Macy's has also discontinued carrying Trump merchandise.
