Less-Invasive Alternative To Facelift Promises Younger-Looking Skin

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - For someone flirting with the idea of a facelift, but who doesn't want to go under the knife, there are some less-invasive alternatives that some say leave skin looking younger.

"I used to have lines around my eyes, this was much deeper. I look much better," Diana Heisinger credits a scary looking mask with her new younger look.

She says it's helped her skin look and feel softer and smoother. The device is called illumask.

"It's the world's first wearable light therapy mask," said Jay Tapper the CEO of illumask. "It's as easy to put on as a pair of glasses."

Light emitting diodes, or l-e-d's are placed strategically inside the mask.

"What they saw was a tremendous difference in the quality of the skin," said Dr. Paul Lorenc an aesthetic plastic surgeon.

Doctors have been using light therapy to help build collagen and renew skin cells. This version is worn for 15 minutes a day at home.

New York City plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Lorenc took part in the clinical trial and was impressed with the results.

"Patients would not want to give up their mask when the trial was over," he said.

Dermatologist Jody Levine agrees there could be a benefit.

"It can cause no harm and if there is a little bit of validity then it's worth trying."

But if a mask is not for you, there's a no-tech, hands-on approach to looking younger. It's a new skin spa where you can literally work out your face.

"The muscles of the face can be exercised just like the muscles in your body. They can be strengthened and toned and will give you a sculpted effect over time," Rachel Lang, owner of Love Face Fitness, and her team used a set of tools to tone not only the skin, but the muscles underneath.
