MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Miami swimmers, among tens of thousands, will try to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest swimming lesson.

The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is hosting Thursday's event as part of an effort to raise awareness of the risk of drowning and pool-related injuries among children.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., 500 children, ages 6-14, enrolled in summer swim classes at Miami-Dade Parks pools will be part of the simultaneous world-wide swimming lesson. Classes for ages 2 through adults at other times throughout the day.
