DAVIE (CBSMiami/AP) — Injuries are a big part of the NFL and the Miami Dolphins are already dealing with one of their own.

Dolphins kicker Caleb Sturgis is expected to miss the rest of the team's spring practices with a leg injury.

Sturgis was absent from Monday's workout and will likely sit out the eight remaining OTA and minicamp practices this month, coach Joe Philbin said.

The injury was first reported by Fox Sports NFL reporter Alex Marvez on Twitter.

The injury creates an opportunity for undrafted rookie Andrew Franks, the other placekicker on the roster.

Franks made several kicks on Monday, including from 36,44 and 54 yards away, but he also missed from 44 and 49 yards.

Even if healthy, Sturgis might be in danger of losing his job.

The two-year veteran was slowed by a groin injury during the preseason last year, and he then went only 16 for 29 on field-goal attempts, which ranked 28th in the league.
