All-Girls Baseball Team Breaking Gender Barrier

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Iron Maidenz is an all-girls baseball team ranging from 8 to 13 years of age preparing for the first ever Baseball For All national tournament.
That's right baseball – not softball.
"It's kind of a gender discrimination thing. They're brought up in tee ball then automatically pushed into softball. Some of those girls don't want to leave baseball for the love of the game," said Manager Robert Saven.

One team mom said she thought she would have a "tap-dancing girl and a girly girl." That all changed once her daughter picked up a baseball.
When asked "why baseball," Heidy Olivo, the Iron Maidenz short stop, said, "We get to show people that boys aren't the only ones who can do it. Girls can also do it and do it better."
Just like Columbia Pictures' A League of Their Own, there's no crying for this baseball team. They compete against boys and are usually the ones provoking the tears.
"Some boys cry sometimes and it feels good," exclaimed Madleyn Saven, the Iron Maidenz Center Fielder.
On Saturday, May 30th, the Iron Maidenz will head to Orlando to compete at nationals in the hopes of becoming the first ever national champions in girls baseball.
