MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A barrage of bullets late Friday morning in Overtown claimed one life and left at least three others wounded.

"Right now we are hearing that 33 shots were fired," said Miami Police Officer Frederica Burden. "It could be more or less."

Burden told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that it was 11:05 a.m. when Miami Police received a report of multiple shots being fired at 1127 N.W. 1st Place.

At least four people were transported or went on their own to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. One man did not survive.

It's not known what prompted this shooting

Dozens of family members and friends went to the hospital looking for answers. It was a somber scene at the hospital. One woman who told D'Oench that her brother had been killed was consoled by other family members and friends.

The woman said her brother was a "good person" but she said she was too upset to speak on camera.

One unidentified family member said, "That was my kid's brother who was killed. It's sad. It's very sad."

Burden said, "We received a call about multiple shots being fired. We sealed off the area when we got there so we could canvass it and set up a perimeter to close off the area to pedestrian and vehicular traffic so we could determine how many shots were fired."

Detectives combed for clues at two scenes.

"We don't have any BOLO out there yet," said Burden. "It's early in the investigation. We are collecting information from witnesses. We are asking for the public's help if anyone saw anything at the scene, please contact Crime Stoppers or our homicide unit."

Burden said detectives do not have a good description to release of the suspects. It's not known if there were any problems in this area before.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami Police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
