Soldier From Florida Dies In Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (CBSMiami/AP) – A soldier from Florida, based in Fort Bragg, has died in Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class Pablo A. Ruiz of Melbourne, the Pentagon said late Monday, died May 24 in a noncombat incident.

Ruiz, 37, was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.

Maj. Allison Aguilar said Ruiz was found dead on the base where he was stationed in Bagram.

Aguilar said the death is still being investigated.

Ruiz had joined the Army in 2003 as a cook.

He had deployed three times as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He had been assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group as a noncommissioned officer in charge of the forward dining facility in Afghanistan.
