Ajayi on Falling in Draft: 'Huge Motivator'

Interviews-wqam

Jay Ajayi rushed for 3,796 yards in his three-year career at Boise State, also becoming the first player in FBS history to rack up 1,800 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the same season.

For a player with a career that prolific, falling to the fifth round of the NFL Draft (knee concerns) provides a motivator for the Dolphins' rookie tailback.

"It's a huge motivator for me," Ajayi said on the Joe Rose Show on 560 WQAM. "Throughout my whole playing career I've always played with a chip on my shoulder.

"I was motivated every time I saw running backs go in front of me and every round that passed. It was disappointing but at the same time Miami took that chance on me. I'm very grateful and excited to give them all I got. I feel healthy, I feel great."

Ajayi feels he's a complete back, able to "do anything the coaches ask." He is expected to have the opportunity to compete with Lamar Miller and others for carries in the Dolphins backfield next season.

Fun fact: Ajayi drinks pickle juice on the sidelines to avoid cramping and says he will take that tactic with him to the NFL.
