FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A gruesome discovery near Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport.

A botanist walking through a wooded area off Cypress Creek Road and NW 21st Avenue found the remains around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The badly decomposed remains are those of an adult male, according to Ft. Lauderdale police spokeswoman Deeana Greenlaw.

"Detectives believe that those remains have been here for quite some time," said Greenlaw.

Police cordoned off the area overnight and worked with the Medical Examiner's Office to excavate the remains Wednesday.

Police have not said what led to person's body ending up there.

"Foul play is not suspected but it also to soon to tell if this person was injured," said Greenlaw.

The area where the remains were found is frequented by the homeless so it is possible the remains are that of a transient person. Police are hoping clothing found on the skeleton might help them make an ID.
