Florida Health Centers Get $5M From Federal Government

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – The Obama administration is spending $5 million to fund 10 new community health centers in the Sunshine State.
Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced the funding. She said the centers would serve some 46,160 patients.
Nationally, approximately $101 million was awarded to 164 new health center sites across the country.
One of the cornerstones of President Obama's health law is not only getting more people insured, but connecting them with primary care so they don't end up in the emergency room when they are more expensive to treat.
The centers have also helped people sign up for insurance. Burwell said health centers assisted nearly 544,000 Floridians in their efforts to become insured.
