GREEN COVE (CBSMiami) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that killed a Florida man who was fleeing after he reportedly stabbed his girlfriend to death—in front of her teenage daughter.

Clay County emergency dispatchers, according to multiple news outlets, got a call about a stabbing Wednesday night in Green Cove Springs. The Clay County Sheriff's Office says a woman was stabbed to death at an apartment complex and the woman's 14-year-old daughter witnessed much of the crime.

Deputies say the 39-year-old suspect fled in his girlfriend's car. When an officer pursued him, the man sped away and crashed. He was ejected into a home's front yard and later died.

The FHP is investigating the accident.

Deputies did not say what the argument leading up to the stabbing was about.
