MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A string of dognapping cases have caught the attention of the Southwest Ranches community but one in particular got the attention of 40 families.
It's the dognapping of a pure bred boxer named Freda.
Rod Espinosa has had Freda for three years. She lived at Spring Water Farms where about 40 families board their horses.
Freda got out and was about two blocks from the farm when witnesses said she was picked up by a man in a truck.
A private investigator who was hired said dognappings in the Southwest Ranches area happen weekly.
The group is hoping a $1,000 reward will entice someone to come forward.
"I sleep with her collar next to my bed and I pray that she's going to come home," said Espinosa.
Families have blanketed the area with signs in an effort to find her.
They fear the person who took Freda on April 19th sold her but they are not giving up hope.
