MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – A 14-year-old whose joyride came to a crashing halt when the car ended up in a Miami Gardens home is out of the hospital.

The driver, who family said is an 8th grade student at Carol City Middle School, drove a black Nissan Maxima into 57-year-old Dorothy Gibson's home at 3950 NW 207th Road.

A source close to the investigation said that the teen will face "severe" charges and that the victims deserve justice.

The boy's mother, reached by phone earlier Wednesday while her son was still in the hospital, said "he is doing a lot better."

The mother, when CBS4's Gary Nelson asked why her son did what he did, she responded, "I don't have any idea why he did it."

"I thank God that he's okay and the person, the lady in the house, was okay. I thank God for that because it could have been worse," the mother said.

Back at the home, Cyril Gibson, Dorothy Gibson's son, said Tuesday's mayhem is a symptomatic of a societal illness.

"This is something that seems to be contagious among our young men and women," Gibson said. "We have gone away from the structure of the family."

Dorothy Gibson spoke to CBS4's Peter D'Oench after the incident.

"I was sitting in my home and I heard a loud bang and noise. I was just watching TV with my daughter and I heard that noise. A big bang. I felt somewhat lost. I grabbed my daughter and went through the sliding glass door."

Gibson said she didn't get hurt but that she did get hit by something. Gibson's daughter was released from Jackson Memorial Hospital North Tuesday evening.

The girl's uncle said she sustained a head injury and had to get stitches.

Witness Equttah Harris said the teen "came around the corner real fast" and said that he must have been going 100 miles per hour. She said the car went airborne into the home.

The teen's mother said he received a cut to his head.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Nissan Maxima was towed away, leaving a gaping hole in Gibson's home.

As far as the home, the homeowner's brother says, "The property has been condemned."
