Girl Found Wandering North Miami Street Reunited With Family

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A North Miami mother has been reunited with her young daughter who was found wandering the streets early Tuesday morning in nothing but a t-shirt.

Several people who spotted the girl at NW 125th Street and NE 6th Court called 911. Police said the girl, who appeared to be seven or eight years old, has Down Syndrome and didn't speak to the officers. She was taken to the police department.

Anthony Dawson, who works at a restaurant near where the girl was found, couldn't believe it.

"To me that's like neglect, if it was me, ain't no way I'd be letting my child wander the streets this time of morning. It's 4 o' clock in the morning. That is very, very sad to see a child wandering the streets this time of morning," he said.

According to the girl's mother, Gertrude Casimir, her daughter went out through a window around 3:30 a.m. When she woke up around 7 a.m. and found her missing she immediately called police. After speaking to police, she was reunited with her daughter. No charges will be filed.
