MIAMI (CBSMIAMI) --  Suspects are in custody after shooting at officers on Wednesday afternoon, Miami-Dade Police said.

It all started when bullets were fired off Northwest 95th Street and 24th Avenue as two men in a Silver Ford Fusion tried to evade police.

People in the neighborhood took cover after they saw the commotion outside.

"The undercover police car, I guess they were chasing the suspect when they was chasing him, we had went in the house and we heard six or seven gunshots so we stayed in the house until everything died down," said Elrod Phillips who heard shots.

According to Miami-Dade Police, 911 dispatch received a call from someone who thought a robbery was taking place at a market off NW 79th Street and 10th Avenue.

"There was a dispute between two parties and both of those parties happened to be armed so this concerned citizen called 911 believing that a robbery was about to take place," said Miami-Dade Det. Romelio Martinez.

During the argument, a man from one of the parties snatched the gold chain of one of the men they were arguing with.

Two suspects took off in a Ford Fusion just as an officer arrived at the market and arrested the two men who were at the market.

Officers from the robbery intervention detail or RID spotted the Ford Fusion and followed it.

"During the attempts of the RID detectives to stop the vehicle, the subjects opened fire on one of our RID detectives, striking that vehicle," said Martinez. "During this incident detectives from the robbery intervention detail did return fire at the vehicle; however, no subjects were struck."

The suspects ended up crashing into a pickup truck on Northwest 95th Street and 24th Avenue carrying several people. The suspects took off on foot.

The driver was arrested feet away from the vehicle and the passenger ended up a few blocks away on Northwest 98th street.

"We did recover several firearms including the assault rifle that was used to fire at the RID detective," said Martinez.
