Gables School Looks Beyond Earth Day

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) --- For Earth Day, schools across South Florida took the opportunity to teach kids about how to make a better tomorrow if you start today.
At Saint Thomas Episcopal Parish, the message was clear.
Save the earth. The student council came up with a program to teach all the kids how to do just that.
"We created posters that spelled out save the earth," said fifth grader Laura Furniss.
"So we decided to put together a presentation on how we could save the Earth," said fifth grader Megan Maguire.
The older kids put together a presentation and went door to door to teach the younger kids what it's all about. The focus is to recycle, reuse, pick up trash, and turn out the lights
But did it work?
"You should pick up trash on the street," said student Thomas Diro.
The Science teacher behind the program, Fran Rosen, said, "I think the younger children sometimes relate better to other children versus adults."
