Comcast To Offer Super Fast Internet Service Next Month

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Comcast customers in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties who rely on the cable giant for their internet will be getting some of the fastest net speeds in the country.

Beginning next month, Comcast will offer customers in the tri-county area the Gigabit Pro service. The same service will be rolled out in Jacksonville as well.

The company said the 2 gigabit per second service will allow users to download a HD movie in 12 seconds, a TV episode in two seconds and an album in less than a second.

"The Internet is constantly evolving and broadband is truly a platform for innovation. Gigabit Pro makes it possible to deliver a level of speed directly to homes that was simply not possible before," said Comcast regional Vice President Amy Smith in a statement.

Speeds for the Gigabit Pro service will be the same for uploads and downloads. Gigabit Pro will be available to any home within close proximity of Comcast's fiber network and will require an installation of professional-grade equipment.

Comcat has not announced the monthly cost for the service or installation.

South Florida is the third Comcast market to announce Gigabit Pro, following Atlanta's launch earlier this month and California last week.

The company also plans to 2 megabit fiber service to some local apartment complexes through its XFINITY Communities program.
