MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Three people were killed in an early morning crash in Miami Lakes.

Investigators believe the red Nissan Altima was heading west on Miami Lakes Drive when the driver lost control at the intersection of North Miami Lakeway Road, slammed into a wall and the car ended up wrapped around a light pole.

Police said they received reports of the crash around 1:20 a.m.

The three people in the Altima, two women in their 30s and man in his 40s, were killed on impact. The vehicle was so badly damaged, it was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office with all three bodies inside, according to police.

Gary Herlth has been living in the area for more than 20 years and said it's happened before.

"In the mornings, early, it's dangerous," said Herlth.

Family confirms the car belonged to 32-year old Gesenia Llorentis, who was apparently driving.  The single mother of a ten year old son was studying to be a medical billing specialist.

The father of the boy remembered her Wednesday as a "Loving mother and a great person."

"Life deals cards sometimes when we might have to lose the game," said Geoffrey Madyna, his eyes tearing, voice cracking.  "She is in a better place right now."

Investigators believe speed played a factor in the crash and they will be looking into whether drugs or alcohol also played a role.

"The message we need to get out is to remind the community especially young drivers that speed kills, "said Martinez. "Time and time again we are doing stories because of speed. Speed is a factor. Everybody needs to slow down."

Miami Lakes Drive proved to be a busy stretch of road. While detectives were investigating the fatal crash a driver drove past the 25 mph sign, a police cruiser with flashing lights, and straight through the police tape. A field sobriety test was done and he was immediately taken in, according to officials, for possible DUI.

Miami-Dade police also investigated a second deadly single vehicle crash.

Around 1:30 a.m. the driver of a GMC Terrain was headed east on NW 36th Street when the lost control near the intersection of NW 42nd Avenue/LeJeune Road. The SUV slammed into a light pole in the median. The driver was killed. A passenger, 20-year old Hunter Kayman, was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where he was listed as stable.
