MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Several officers were honored Friday for performing lifesaving acts during the course of their duties.

Four officers received the Miami Dade Police Department Life Saving Award for their heroic acts in the line of duty.

Israel Gonzalez, who nearly died in a serious accident, said he was extremely grateful and wouldn't know where he would be without Officer Victor Milian.

Gonzalez suffered a partial amputation in August when he was repairing an AC unit in the Hammocks when it exploded.

Officer Milian lives in the area where the accident happened and rushed to help.

"I applied a tourniquet, he had severe hemorrhaging from the arm due to the injuries," the Officer said.

His quick-thinking saved Gonzalez's arm.

"No I'm not a hero," said Milian, "I'm doing my job to serve and protect the community and it's what we do every day."

Officers Enrique Noriega and Giovanni Rodriguez used their first responder training to help save a 70-year-old man in cardiac arrest regain his pulse.

"Feels wonderful to save someone's life based on the training we have," said Officer Noriega.

"It's good to be recognized for what we do but in reality were representing the whole police department and what we do on a daily basis," said Officer Rodriguez. "When we put this uniform in were ready to save lives and sometimes even give our lives for saving others."

Officer Jose Sanchez was also recognized for helping to stabilize a man having a heart attack at the Port of Miami.

Director J.D. Patterson presented each officer with an award and ribbon for their outstanding performance and dedication to service.

Patterson, at the ceremony, honored the officers for their hard work, dedication and for "your delivery of life saving actions to the citizens of our community."
