MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- South Florida service members got to rock out during lunch on Wednesday.

And they did it with Rock star Kid Rock himself who surprised the group with a free concert.

U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) located in Doral hosted the event as a means to show support for service members.

While they rocked out, service members were also treated to free lunch.

"It was great. He rocked it out, " said Sgt. Jonathan Machado who attended the concert.

To some,  the concert meant more than just a good time with colleagues.

"It means a lot that Kid Rock came out today. We take it for granted that we are just working here day to day and he's taking the time out to see us," said Sgt. Machado.

" It means a lot," said employee Gigi Dehuelbes. " He took his time to come all the way out here... It was very patriotic."

"We don't usually get to do this very often so it's nice to see support from the outside community," said Petty officer Giacomo Zac.
