MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Locals and tourists gathered Thursday for a concert celebrating the centennial of the city of Miami Beach with a 100-hour concert.

The celebration has drawn thousands from near and far including a couple who took a 14-hour drive from Georgia for the special event.

“It’s really alive, really a lot of action.  I mean everybody’s real pumped up about it,” said Paul Jones who drove to the celebration.

The event, which kicked-off at 5 p.m., was organized  by Grammy Award winning producer Rudy Perez  and executive producer Bruce Orosz.

“Miami was birthed on March 26, 1915, so in celebration of that date, 100 years later, we’re going to do 100 hours of fun, artsy and amazing events on Miami Beach,” Orosz  said.

The concert called, Hard Rock Rising, is being billed as the biggest concert Miami Beach has ever seen. It’s the first of what will be global beach concerts by Hard Rock.
