Broussard: Cuban Food is 'Just Bland'

Interviews-wqam

Chris Broussard joined the Marc Hochman Show with Zack Krantz for his weekly appearance on 560 WQAM and in non shocking fashion the ESPN NBA reporter swung another loose jab at the South Florida audience.

Broussard initially didn't comprehend why he was disliked in South Florida after being told he was a contestant on Page Q's Miami Sports Hate Bracket, but moments later it cleared up naturally. In conversing about food, he did a strange thing by referring to Cuban food as bland on a radio station located in a town with a large population of Cuban Americans.

"I've got to admit I'm not a huge fan of Cuban food," Broussard said to the shocked Hochman and Krantz. "For some reason I am not a big fan of Cuban food and Mexican food. I find Cuban food just bland. Hate me if you will but it does not compare to creole food."

(Again, you can vote for Broussard as Miami's Most Hated here.)

Besides the entertaining chatter about Miami's disdain for the NBA Insider, he does think the Heat can move up in the Eastern Conference playoff seedings, starting with a win against the Bucks tonight. Some might think he was trying to save face at this point, but he sounded genuine.

"You have a good shot at getting up to the six seed," he said. "I mean if you beat Milwaukee tonight, you're just a half game back.

"I was actually talking with an assistant coach in the East today and he said he picked Miami to beat Toronto in the first round. The problem is you would get Cleveland in the second round. That's not a bad season considering you're missing Chris Bosh."

Looking ahead, Broussard would hypothetically pick the Heat over the Raptors but isn't sure about a matchup with the first-place Hawks in the opening round.

"That's a tough one," he said. "I can't just dismiss Atlanta, their 62 wins or whatever they're going to end up with, but I really would like Miami's chances. You'd probably be the more talented team.

"I would probably pick Atlanta, barely, but wouldn't be surprised if Miami won."

As for why Miami has played so well of late (outside of Sunday against Oklahoma City), Broussard points to Dwyane Wade but commends the addition of Goran Dragic.

"The difference has been Wade," Broussard said. "When Wade is fine health wise he's still, he's still -- and he's just showing it -- a top 10 player in this league."

Dwyane Wade was just named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for averaging 24.5 points, 4.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in four games while shooting 53.2 percent from the field.
