FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Fort Lauderdale bridal shop appears to have closed its doors, leaving jilted brides worried about their upcoming weddings.

Bride-to-be Melissa Coyle bought her dream dress at Victoria's Bridal Couture in Fort Lauderdale.

She told CBS4's Oralia Ortega she received a call from the shop about a week ago asking her to update her mailing address.

"I reminded her I'd be in in 6 weeks or so for my first fitting and I needed to have more work on the dress. It needed straps and to be taken in a lot," said Coyle.

But to her surprise her dress showed up at her door Thursday in a box.

"After I took the dress out, this letter was at the very bottom of the box, so this is the only explanation that they gave," she said.

The note states the store was unable to continue to store her gown at the facility and lists several contact phone numbers for pending orders.

On social media sites other brides said they were in the same situation and were unable to get a hold of anyone to find out what's going on.

"I don't see how they can do this to people and not having a sense of guilt or remorse for doing that to girls who are really looking forward to their day," said Coyle.

CBS4 passed by the store, which had no signage that the business was closed. Even though the business hours remained up on the front door, piled up mail and notes from customers had yet to be picked up.

The store's website is down, but according to a Linkedin Account the store has been in business for over 20 years and has "dressed some of the most famous celebrities, high society, influential and everyday brides."

A recorded message lists store hours and prompts callers to leave a message, but the voicemail is unable to accept the messages.

Coyle wants more than an explanation. She wants an apology.

She says she has time to get her dress altered for her big day, but she knows of other brides who may not be as lucky.

"I just hope that all the other girls out there are able to get some kind of assistance, especially the ones that are in a more dire situation," she said.
