MIAMI (CBSMiami) – City of Miami Police are investigating a robbery-related shooting that left one man dead.

According to the police, the shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. at NW 12th Ave. and 34th St.

"I heard like four or five (shots)," said neighbor Dexa Perez.

Perez told CBS4's Oralia Ortega she first thought they were fireworks, but when she went outside she realized her neighborhood was a crime scene.

"They (the robbers) jumped this gate right behind me and they took off," said neighbor Roberto, who did not want to disclose his last name.

The man who was shot was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's trauma center. Police confirmed he later died of his wounds.

As neighbors try to confirm who the victim is, they say they're truly concerned about what's taken place.

"It's sad and very, very, very surprising for something like that to happen here. It usually never happens here," said neighbor Elizabeth Murray.

Roberto added, "I ride my bike every day after school, so it's pretty dangerous out here."

If you have any information, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
