TWIN CITY, Ga. (CBSMiami/AP) — A retired marine from Weston who was jailed in Mexico for illegally entering the country with firearms  has been charged with driving under the influence, according to Georgia authorities.

The Emanuel County Sheriff's Office said in statement that police stopped 26-year-old Andrew Tahmooressi on Wednesday night. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, improper passing and open container violation.

Tahmooressi was stopped by police from Twin City, about 175 miles southeast of Atlanta. He was released from jail Thursday after posting bond.

He gave police a Daytona Beach, Florida, address.

Tahmooressi served in Afghanistan and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

He has said he took a wrong turn on a California freeway that funneled into a Tijuana port of entry. Politicians, veterans groups and others called for his freedom.
