MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The new 'Cinderella' movie is a modern day take on one of the most classic fairy tales of all time.

In the movie, director Kenneth Branagh is the eyes behind this beautiful fairy tale which debuted in the 1950's as an animated feature.

For this film, the story has been tweaked a bit. Cinderella meets her prince long before the ball and the prince isn't just a secondary character trying to fit a lost shoe. This time around he's played by Scottish actor Richard Madden known to American audiences as Rob Stark in HBO's acclaimed series Game of Thrones.

"I wanted to make him someone who has a sense of humor and had awareness of his own privilege and respect for the women and the people around him. He's a prince but he's a soldier and a friend. " said Madden.

The big beautiful ballroom scene was filmed in the largest studios in all of England.

"The sets are stunning. There are no fake walls there. We built it. It's huge and we had 200 lit candles in the scene plus 600 supporting artists and dancers," the actor explained.

When it came to the dancing, that didn't come easy to Madden.

"I'm a terrible dancer, so I had to train a lot. I think the prince would enjoy to dance so I had to train a lot so I could get the fear out of my eyes. I was like Oh God I'm going to stand on the dress or step on her feet," he said, laughing.

But Madden did admit to CBS4's Lisa Petrillo that in the end, the dancing was fun.

"It was eventually. Once I got the feel and felt more comfortable . Then it was magical," he said.

It's a magical story now new in the 21st century but still faithful to the timeless tale.

"Maybe it's the message of what Cinderella is all about. Someone who does everything with kindness in the face of adversity and of evil. She tried to find the best of things. She always takes the kindness path and that's inspiring and something we should all take to heart." said Madden.

Cinderella is rated PG 13.
