LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBSMiami) – A 42-year-old homeless man is under arrest Sunday, charged with killing a man in a parking lot.

David Edward Shaw is facing a second degree murder charge for the death of a 37-year-old homeless man. The victim has not been identified.

The incident happened in a parking lot at 4003 W. Oakland Park Boulevd, just east of the Burger King in Lauderdale Lakes Saturday.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office, witnesses told detectives they saw two men arguing earlier and that the victim said Shaw had tried to stab him.

Shaw, around 9:30 pm, attacked the victim with a knife in a parking lot, police said. A passerby called 9-1-1 after seeing the victim injured on the pavement.

The victim was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A few hours after the stabbing, deputies spotted the suspect walking nearby where the incident occurred. Police say he had purchased a new shirt after the attack but homicide detectives found blood on his leg, as well as a bag of bloody clothing nearby.

In addition to the shirt, detectives recovered the kitchen knife they believe he used as a murder weapon.

BSO said Shaw, who has an extensive arrest history, admitted to the detective that he stabbed the victim and hid the clothing.
