New Avengers Trailer: Here's What We Learned

by Brian Ives

The latest trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron is out and it's pretty epic. Here's some things we learned. Or we think we learned:

Ultron Is Playing the Role of Magneto to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch: Ultron, the "big bad" of the film, is looking like the Magneto-esque father-figure to super powered siblings, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, respectively.

See, in the Marvel Comics Universe, Magneto is Wanda and Pietro's dad; the two of them eventually join the Avengers, even though pop is a bad guy (so rebellious of them!). But because of legal mumbo-jumbo, some Marvel characters, including all of the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, TV's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, and upcoming Netflix series that feature Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, exist in one cinematic universe (referred to as the MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe). All the X-Men, and even the term "mutant," are owned by Fox, so none of those characters or concepts can be used in an Avengers film.

However, a different Quicksilver (and a young Wanda) both appeared in the recent X-film, Days of Future Past. (Hopefully one day there will be a BluRay of the legal negotiations between Marvel and Fox that allowed each company to come up with their own versions of Wanda and Pietro.)  But "daddy issues" have always been part of the Wanda/Pietro story, and it looks like Ultron, a sentient robot, will be that daddy in the upcoming Avengers film.
