Gottlieb Compares New York to an 'Ugly Chick'

Interviews-wqam

CBS Sports' Doug Gottlieb was in town this weekend announcing the North Carolina at Miami game on Saturday, and welcomed an escape from the bitter northeast winter to the tropical year-round weather of South Florida.

Joining WQAM to preview the game, he also unleashed some shade at the city of New York and the "angry" fans of the overwhelmingly putrid teams that come along with it.

"There's a reason northeast sports fans are so angry," Gottlieb said on Hochman and Krantz. "Here's the thing about New York: the cost of living's going up, the chance of living's going down. The weather sucks, your sports teams suck, and the traffic sucks. So you tell me what the redeeming qualities -- oh it has personality. Isn't that what you say about an ugly chick?"

Gottlieb has a point.

Those are facts. Besides the weather, traffic and cost of living, their sports teams, for the most part, are one big dumpster fire.

The Jets and Giants won 10 games combined last season. The Knicks have the worst record in basketball and the Nets are on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Mets are lousy and the Yankees haven't made the playoffs in two years despite a fat payroll. The only redeeming teams of pro sports in the Big Apple are in the NHL, where the Rangers and Islanders are among the creme of the East.

That's a ton of teams in one city with very little success to show for it.
