Dwork On Sports: Heat Redemption Tour Continues With Beasley Return

The Miami Heat's redemption tour made another stop on Thursday when the team announced it had signed Michael Beasley to a 10-day contract.
As I'm sure you remember, Beasley was selected with the second overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft by Miami and was a main contributor for the Heat until he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2010 offseason that saw LeBron James take his talents to South Beach.
Beasley is coming off of a very good season playing in China, including an All-Star game MVP performance in which he scored 59 points. This will be Beasley's third stint with Miami and they are surely hoping that the third time is indeed the charm.
The move to sign Beasley isn't all that surprising. He becomes the third player that the Heat has brought onboard this season that is looking for a career revival.
First it was Hassan Whiteside given a chance to revitalize his career, and he's done nothing but become one of the most talked about comeback stories in the NBA this season.
More recently Miami brought veteran journeyman Henry Walker aboard on a 10-day contract and based on his production in the two games he's played, it's likely that the Heat will keep him around for the rest of the season. Walker had been having a standout year with Miami's D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, before being given a shot to prove his worth in the NBA again.
In a year that has had a lot of twists and turns, the Heat seem to be riding the good karma wave that comes with giving players a second (or third, or fourth) chance. After the departure of LeBron James and the injuries to Josh McRoberts and now Chris Bosh, Miami has a chance to close out the season on a high note and go into the playoffs with some momentum as a team that could potentially do some damage. Hey, why not?
