Cold Temps Break & Tie Records Across South Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A cold start across South Florida with most areas waking up with the 30s and 40s.
The cold broke the record in Key West with a low of 49 degrees. The old record, set back in 1958, was 52 degrees.
Miami dropped to 42 degrees and tied a record set back in 1972.

Ft. Lauderdale also tied the record set back in 1960 with a low of 40 degrees. Our average low this time of year is 63 degrees. Due to the northerly breeze, the wind chill values made it feel like it was "freezing" for some inland areas. Wind chill values ranged from 32 to 39 degrees.
A Wind Chill advisory in place through 9 AM Friday, with that it is best to bring in your pets and cover any sensitive plants. The freeze warning also remains in place until 9 am for the agricultural areas due to the potential for freezing temperatures or below which could lead to frost and possibly kill crops and tender vegetation.
Something most South Floridians aren't used to should dress in layers since we'll see highs climb to the mid to upper 60s this afternoon with a cool breeze and plenty of sunshine.
A warming trend will take us into the weekend as the Arctic High pressure moves into the Western Atlantic and the shift in the winds will lead to lows in the mid to upper 50s by tomorrow morning. Highs will be close to the mid-70s.
It will be windy at times with some showers on the breeze. Highs will climb back to the upper 70s by Sunday. And by next week lows will be in the 60s and highs around 80 degrees Monday and Tuesday.
