Eight South Florida Men Charged With Running Gambling Op

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Eight South Florida men are accused of running an illegal gambling ring.

An investigation by the Broward Sheriff's Office Organized Crime Unit found they used offshore sports betting websites to conduct illegal gambling and bookmaking activity. The bookmakers, couriers and agents allegedly bet on both collegiate and professional games.

In addition to offshore betting, they were allegedly observed in hand-to-hand transactions to transfer cash.

Those charged are Michael Dangelo, 58, of Pompano Beach; Darren Klein, 36, of Coral Springs; Allan Klein, 71, of Margate; Erik Bishop, 35, of Parkland; Thomas Cuce, 32, Joseph Petrolino, 47, Devon Shaimi, 30, of Boca Raton and 65-year old Patsy Capolongo of West Palm Beach.

They face a number of charges including racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, money laundering, conspiracy to commit money laundering, bookmaking, conspiracy to commit bookmaking and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

Investigators recovered more than one million in illegal proceeds.
