Grieving Father Says More People Should Be Held "Accountable" In Son's Death

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The grieving father of a toddler whose death has been ruled a homicide says he believes more people should be held "accountable."

"I know he was being strong," said Clifford Coach about his 3-year old son Khyese.

Broward Sheriff investigators have charged Corey Gordon with killing the child.

Gordon is the boyfriend of Khyese's mother and had been left in his care while she was working.

"Look at how they treated him, it's not right," said Coach.

He said he suspects his son was being abused for sometime but when he confronted the child's mother, he says she covered for Coach.

"She said, I beat the child," explained Coach.

The child's mother Chantal Haye denies she had anything to do with his death. But Coach feels she didn't do enough to protect him

'It's just crazy a mother would let her child be in a situation like that."

According to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) there were open investigations on the mother and her boyfriend.

A report was called in January 21 with allegations that the mother and her boyfriend were beating the child.

And last December DCF says they closed a report alleging that the child was always crying and had marks resembling belt marks on his body.

"When I heard DCF was investigating I was relieved. I thought at that point I'm gonna get my child," said Clifford Coach.

His mother says she hopes DCF is held accountable for not removing the child and that BSO investigators continue to look at all the circumstances.

"I feel they dropped the ball. And if they hadn't he would be alive," said paternal grandmother Keisha Simpson.
