FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Police would like to have a word with the person who crashed through the front of an store under construction in Ft. Lauderdale and left before officers arrived.
It happened early Tuesday morning at a SE 8th Avenue and Broward Boulevard.
After crashing through the store's glass front, the BMW plowed through the empty unit and crashed into the rear door and back wall, knocking out a chunk of concrete out of it. A Texas license plate was found among the debris.
After checking out the wreckage "Mr. Burrows", who was working a construction job across the street, couldn't believe what he saw.
"He was a crazy man. He didn't brake, didn't stop or nothing, he still got the flashers on," said Burrows. "He couldn't have picked a better spot to hit because there was nothing in there to hit. He just went straight through the building."
Police believe after the crash, the driver climbed out of the car through the back seat and ran off on foot.
