Dan Marino on Deflate-Gate: "In My Mind, I Could Throw Anything"

Interviews-wqam

Dan Marino, one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever sling the football, joined the Joe Rose Show this morning on 560 WQAM to chat about Ryan Tannehill's development, Tom Brady's deflate-gate, and Super Bowl XLIX.

"Every quarterback that has ever played the position understands that getting the footballs the way you like them before a game is part of the game," Marino said. "I mean I did it for years, Jim Kelly up in buffalo did it, Tom's doing it, Peyton Manning's doing it."

Marino doesn't think Brady would do anything to intentionally gain a competitive advantage and thinks the media has overblown the topic. That said, the amount of air in the football did not matter one iota to the Miami Dolphins legend when he dropped back to air it out.

"In my mind, I could throw anything," he said. "So it didn't matter."

As a special advisor to the Dolphins last season, Marino was plugged in with Ryan Tannehill's development and he likes what he's seen so far.

"He's a tough kid, he's a hard worker," Marino said. "You see the progress that he made last year.

"I thought he made a lot of great strides, just the fact he was in a new system and he's going to continue to get better and better without a doubt.

Much has been made about Tannehill's accuracy throwing deep. Is that something he can improve at?

"I think you can get better at everything that you work at," Marino said. "I think that's the most important thing as a professional, working hard at what you do.

"That just comes down to throwing them and working on them and throwing them in the games and getting in the position where the communication with the wide receivers and the quarterbacks is a positive one where you feel good about doing it."
